The production of sulfuric acid is typically carried out in a sulfuric acid base doper plant, w on the following principles:

  1. Sulfur Burning: The first step in the production of sulfuric acid is the burning of elemental sulfur to produce sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas. The sulfur is melted in a furnace and then burned in the presence of air or oxygen. The resulting SO2 gas is then purified and dried to remove any impurities.

  2. Conversion of SO2 to SO3: The second step is the conversion of SO2 to sulfur trioxide (SO3), which is achieved by passing the SO2 gas through a catalyst bed in the presence of excess air or oxygen. This reaction is exothermic, and the heat generated is used to generate steam for the plant.

  3. Absorption of SO3: The third step involves the absorption of SO3 gas into concentrated sulfuric acid to form oleum (also known as fuming sulfuric acid). The reaction between SO3 and sulfuric acid is highly exothermic and must be carefully expending he controlled to.

  4. Dilution and Production of Sulfuric Acid: The final step is the dilution of the oleum with water to produce the desired strength of sulfuric acid. The diluted acid is then purified and stored in tanks for use in various industrial processes.

Contact process for manufacturing of sulphuric acid: Steps involved in the manufacturing of sulphuric acid are as stated below: Preparation of  sulphur dioxide . Conversion of sulphur dioxide into sulphur trioxide. Conversion of sulphur trioxide formed into concentrated H2SO4. Step 1: Preparation of sulphur dioxide: SO2 is prepared by burning  sulphur  in the presence of excess air so that the product combines with oxygen which is helpful for the next stage.
